Today, Cisco reported that 53% of small and midmarket companies suffered a breach in 2018. Their study highlights the particular vulnerability of small businesses, which collect valuable data, but lack the resources to secure it. According to the report, 77% of midmarket businesses said they had trouble setting up alerts, and only 54% of alerts were looked into, because security support is rarely in house, if it exists at all.
Cisco’s findings validate what we’ve been saying: there is a need for security automation at scale. Small businesses can little afford the impact of being taken offline for 8 hours or more, as 40% were in 2018. Automated solutions allow companies to secure their networks, even when there are few, or no, highly trained security personnel.
